The Miccosukee Indian Tribe first settled Collier County in 1763 and Naples was first incorporated in 1923. The City now consists of 13.5 square miles and is surrounded by thre bodies of water: The Gulf of Mexico, The Gordon River, Naples Bay.
The population of Naples during the off-season is about 21,000 but from November to May that can rise to well over 36,000 as Winter residents and visitors arrive, usually shortly after the first cold snap in the Northern regions.
The City of Naples and surrounding Collier County have excellent Golf and Tennis facilities, with over fifty golf courses in the County, many the work of top golf designers such as Tom Fazio and Jack Nicklaus. Many of the gated communites have immaculate kept greens and offer great member packages. Even non-golfing communites offer memberships with neighbor courses.
